A God who allows Pain

I understand why someone might look at all the pain and suffering and cruelty in the world, and ask that question. If God is love, why would a loving Father allow His children to suffer? …Or, at the very least, why not stop some of the very worst attrocities?

Tolerance Is Lazy

When it comes to issues of tolerance, I think the Church needs to stop looking at what the sinners and unbelievers are doing, and start looking at the early Christian church. When it comes to tolerance, the early church sets a great example: They tolerated immense persecution, deserted by their families, murdered by their government,…

I Believe.

I believe there’s a God because I see order and design in the universe. I believe He is loving because I have seen the good things He has given us, and I see that people are designed to thrive on love. I believe He is just because I see that the world is designed with…

Tim the Man!

My youngest brother, Tim, turns 18 today. He is the youngest of 8 children, and is officially recognized as a legal adult. Tim was the last child from my childhood, and now he’s legally allowed to smoke, gamble, go to strip clubs, and (gasp) vote! Pretty crazy stuff! Anyway, it got me thinking about becoming…

Thoughts On Being Persecuted

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” -Jesus Just an observation, but I notice Jesus doesn’t say…

Some verses on my mind…

Some verses I’ve been thinking about lately, or that describe what I’ve been thinking about. Submitted without comment… The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him. Proverbs 18:17   See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition,…

Two Arguments Against Legalizing Gay Marriage (and why I’m ignoring them)

A friend recently issued a challenge, asking for one valid argument against gay marriage. I offered two, and then explained why I’m not griping about Prop 8 and DOMA being overturned.

God’s Will for Me

In this devotional, I talk about knowing God’s will. I also like to think this is the first devotional with a cameo by Ron Burgundy.

Run or Be Run Over

It’s my month to do devotionals each week for the Christian group at work. Here’s another. For what it’s worth, I like to think that I’m the first person to mention nipple chafing in a devotional.
